Message from the President

Dear Members:

Local 1457 Wins $3 Million Settlement in Suit Against New York City For Federal Labor Law Violations

Today is a day of great victory for the hard-working members of Local 1457 who participated in the lawsuit against New York City and, indeed, for all of the working class people of New York City.  The City has agreed to a partial settlement in the amount of $3 million, ensuring that your hard work and long hours do not go uncompensated.

When this battle started nearly three years ago, many wouldn’t listen to our pleas. Others refused to right the wrong. Our claims were dismissed and many mocked our cries to be fairly compensated.

But today is your day of triumph – the men and women of Local 1457 who put in countless hours to provide for your families. When faced with unfair compensation practices we stood together and now we stand victorious. Your voice has been heard and your claims have been vindicated across all of New York City and, in fact, across the entire country.

We will continue our legal fight for the remaining portions of the suit, and more information will be forthcoming on plaintiff’s individual compensation in connection with the lawsuit.

If you have questions regarding this lawsuit and or others, please feel free to call myself, your Union Representative or General Counsel, for Local 1457 at 917-626-1887.

Sincerely,

Alex Parker
